Side note: One of the towns we passed through before entering the Bighorn National Forest was Dayton. In 1887, long after the Indian wars had ended, a drunk in Dayton set a haystack on fire one night to keep warm. People near Sheridan saw flames and a glow in the sky and assumed that Indians had sacked Dayton. Everyone rushed around preparing for the defense of Sheridan. People from outlying ranches were brought in for their protection. Nobody in Sheridan got any sleep that night, but the drunk stayed warm and toasty.
Anyway, we started our trip up into the Bighorn Mountains which was absolutely spectacular looking. Then we hit construction. Yuck!
