Heading Home - May 29, 2011

After a wonderful and enjoyable visit with the kids, it was time to head home.

We started seeing snow within a few minutes of entering Provo Canyon.  The higher we climbed, the more we could see the snow coming.

We finally got up high enough outside of Park City that it began to snow on us and continued for approximately the next 100+ miles.

The visibility got worse and worse.

Then we got on I-80 in Wyoming and it didn't get any better.

Doesn't Mother Nature know it's May 29th?  Summer is supposed to arrive June 21st.

The highway looks like a giant ski jump to me.

Spring, spring, where forth art thou Spring?

It's May Ray Day

What?  Yes, a day has been set aside to celebrate the beginning of the warm outside days the sun gives us.
That's a joke - this is what it looked like when I opened up my blinds this morning...

Snow starting to stick to the grass

Snow beginning to stick to my car

Doesn't Mother Nature know it's May 19th!!!  Where is our spring?

Spring? April 29 Snow.

Here it is April 29th. Doesn't Mother Nature know that spring was officially listed on the calendar back on March 20th? That was 40 days ago! And we had snow the majority of the day and expecting more in the morning. At least it didn't stick to the streets or sidewalks. Look at the snow on the table and on the chair and it got even deeper before it was stopped snowing. I referred back to a blog from last year and found out that we had snow up until May 5th last year.

I keep seeing commercials on TV about summer movies, summer sales, summer shoes, etc. I'm just waiting for spring to spring so we can get out and do a little exploring. I'm chomping at the bit and ready to go!

The Sidewalk Fairy

For two years, someone has been clearing our walkway and sidewalk from snow. Sometimes the walks have been cleared before I've left for work in the morning. I've wondered who this person or persons may have been that's done this, but I've never caught them in the act.

However, this morning as I was sitting on my bench by the front door getting ready to go outside and clean the car off so we could go to church, I heard a sound. It was a scraping sound like some shoveling on the walk. I jumped up, looked out the window and there was our neighbor, Dave walking towards the street. Caught ya in the act!!! Then he proceeded to wipe the snow from the car. No, I didn't open the door and say something. I ran and got my camera so I could document Dave's generosity. I'll thank him later.

The shoveled walkway...

One of the many things to be thankful for - great neighbors!

First Big Snow of 2011

We had been warned about lots of upcoming snow on 12/30 and it started that evening. This picture shows it just beginning and how light it was outside even at 11:30 p.m. The light from the city and our street was reflecting off the snow.

This is my netbook that I had sat outside so that Mom and Dad in Georgia could participate in what the snow looked like. It just so happened that Aunt Rachel, Aunt Ruth and Aunt Alice were there so they could see the tour of the snow coming down. I had a towel and some aluminum foil over the top of the chair to keep the falling snow from the computer.

This was looking left out of our front door...

And, this is looking right out of the front door...

This is what the sidewalk looked like after being shoveled for the first time...

Snow even stuck on the doorbell...

Snow starting to pile up again. See the sidewalk.

Out the backdoor. Note the snow piling up on the table...

A later look out the front door. The sidewalk has disappeared now...

A couple of days later, I went out to the car to make sure it would still start. When I opened up the front door I notice something stuck to my seatbelt and then saw some brown ice in the back seat. I opened up the back door and this is what I found. It was frozen, exploded Diet Pepsi. I had forgotten to bring in two 2 liter bottles that had been left in the car. Because the temperature dropped to 30+ degrees BELOW zero, one had blown up...

This is the bottle. The lid blew off and the side ripped open...
Here's the furry kids just laying down in the snow contemplating life and squirrels.
