Diary Diddle - June 5

Friday - 1970

Mr. Bill and Carol came down this afternoon and bought me a red folding umbrella.  Tonite was graduation and Mr. Bill and Dad took some pictures of me in my cap and gown.  I was so smiley when I got my diploma.  Mr. Bill showed some movies he had taken when I was in the 4th grade and they were so funny.

Note:  The movies that Mr. Bill showed was taken at a Pioneer Day celebration while we lived in Japan.  We kids were dressed in period clothing and we had turned our little red wagon into a pioneer wagon.

Diary Diddle - June 4

1969 - Wednesday
Got up at 4:30.  Mom and I left.  We made the trip real good and in 4 1/2 hours.  I finally got to see the house and it's really beautiful.  We then went to Tifton after Mom went to the water, telephone and electric companies.  It was so hot and poor Julius was so hot he just laid on the seat beside me.  I went swimming with Joan and all the boys in the pond today.  I was just going to bed when Aunt Lilly came over with some baby and is going to sleep in my bed.
------------------------------------------------------
Note:  Joan is my cousin and "the boys" are probably all her brothers.  Aunt Lilly was my Grandmother McGhee's sister.

1970 - Thursday

This morning I had to get up and go to graduation practice.

Diary Diddle - May 29

Friday - 1970

I got $15.00 from Uncle Lorin and Aunt Mary.  Mom came home from the hospital.  Dad and I carried Mrs. Ford's crank bed over for Mom to sleep on.  She sure has been grouchy.  The Ford sisters game me a purse and a very good book entitled "After The Tassel Is Moved".
------------------------------------------------------
Note:  Uncle Lorin and Aunt Mary were Dad's aunt and uncle and just the neatest people.  They used to travel alot while they were alive and seemed to go everywhere.  The seemed to come by and visit with our family once a year.  The last time I saw them alive was when I was in McAllen, Texas doing a training workshop and I had dinner with them one night as that is where they were retired and living at the time.

The Ford sisters - Marguerite and Dorothy were two old maid sisters who lived next to us in Valdosta.  Miss Marguerite was the Guidance Counselor at the high school.

Diary Diddle - May 18

1969 - Sunday
I only have two more Sundays left here (Niceville, Florida).  It rained real bad today.  Mom and Dad had to stay after Sunday School and so I had to drive us kids home.  This was the first time I've ever driven in the rain and boy was it scary.  The primary gave its program for Sacrament Meeting tonight.  On June 4, Mom and I are going up to Georgia.
------------------------------------------------------
Note:  Sacrament Meetings used to be held in the evenings before the meeting schedules changed in the 70's because of the gas shortages.

1970 - Sunday
Kenny left this morning.  We went to Tifton for the 50th wedding anniversary of Grandmother and Granddaddy McGhee.  We girls left early and came home, then went to church.  Clayton walked me out to the car and held my hand in the crook of his arm.  I like that guy pretty much.  I addressed graduation announcements and mailed them all.

My Graduation

With all the graduations taking place in the last few weeks, I decided to bite the bullet and tell a little something about my own graduation. I can describe it in three words "I HATED IT"! But, one of the greatest things about my graduation was that Mr. Bill and his wife, Carol, came from South Carolina to attend my graduation.

I may have said it in an earlier blog, but it bears repeating...I hated high school. I went to two high schools since Dad was in the Air Force - one in Niceville, Florida (Eglin AFB) and Valdosta, Georgia (Moody AFB). I never got to know anyone real well so I had no high school friends. I was the poster child of "Wall Flowers". I was invisible, I doubt anyone would remember me. I was never so happy to see my night of graduation come so that I could move on to bigger and better things beyond high school and Valdosta, Georgia. And I did...I got friends, I went places, people definitely got to know who I was and I wasn't shy anymore!
