Nevada via the Bonneville Salt Flats

In 2007, when Allyson graduated from high school, Jimmy and Tabi flew out to attend her graduated.  Joe and I also came out to visit with the kids and attend the graduation.

On one of our free days while the kids were at work, the remaining out-of-towners loaded up in my car and headed out to eat lunch in Nevada.  You see, I'd never been to Nevada and neither had any of the others.  Nevada was one of those states I wanted to check off my list as having visited.

On the way over, we passed through the Bonneville Salt Flats.  What an amazing place!  Those salt flats are the most incredible whitest white I've ever seen in my life.

This is Allyson walking out onto the salt flats which seem to go on and on forever.

The Flats feature 30,000 acres of pure bleached salt that lies below soaring mountain peaks. The illusion projected makes the mountains appear to be floating on air and is truly an incredible.

We finally made it to Nevada!  We then had to decide where to eat so after stopping at a fire station and asking them, we wound up at the Peppermill Casino for the buffet lunch.
Everyone stayed in the car while I went inside to check out the buffet.  I had never been in a casino before and after coming in from the sunlight into the lobby, this is what I saw!  My first thought was "now I know what hell must look like."  We all came in though because the buffet was incredible.  If you could think of a food, they had it from prime rib to crab legs to lobster to out of this world desserts.  It costs about $16.00 a person, but it was the best buffet I've ever had the pleasure to sample.  I could have stayed all day.

We stopped at the Great Salt Lake on the way back home.  Here's Tabi checking it out.

What a fun day trip!  Ally is now married and living in Utah, Tabi is now married, expecting a little girl at any time and living in Tifton and Jimmy is single and living in Tifton also.  And, Joe and I are now residents of the great state of Wyoming for 2 1/1 years.  Wow, time has really moved on for those of us on this little jaunt.
