Jumping Frog Day

May 13th is Jumping Frog Day.  It's to honor the famous frog jumping contests in Calaveras County, CA, found in Mark Twain's writings.

I've never been there.  I've never been to a frog jumping  contest, but I have eaten frog legs on multiple occasions and enjoy eating them.  They taste like - chicken.  The first frog legs I ever remember tasting was at my Grandmother Cattell's home in Missouri after our family had returned from Japan.  My Uncle Dave and Uncle George and their wives and children were there and I remember one evening frog legs were prepared for dinner.  However, before they were battered and fried, my uncles had a great time showing all the kids how they could make the frog legs move by grasping a vein.  We were impressed.

My only other connection to frogs is Kermit the Frog.  We used to watch "The Muppets" around our home and that included even Dad.  Later the Muppet Movies came out and one of my favorite songs, and one of Dad's, was Kermit singing "The Rainbow Connection".  Every time I hear it, I think of you, Dad.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, b
ut only illusions.
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some chose to believe it,
I know they're wrong wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.

Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing, that keeps us star gazing,

And, what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers the dreamers and me.

All of us under it's spell,
We know that it's probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.

Is this the sweet sounds that called the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it

It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
