Today In History...

May 18, 1860…Abraham Lincoln of Springfield, Illinois was nominated for the U.S. Presidency by Republican party leaders at a meeting in Chicago.

August 1, 1999...Corey and I were on our second day of a trip out west. We stopped and spent part of the day in Springfield, Illinois where Abraham Lincoln lived before heading to the White House.

This is the last house that Abraham Lincoln lived in before going to the White House.

Corey "picking up" some local women.

This is Corey standing by Lincoln's giant bed.  But, as big as it is, it wasn't big enough for Lincoln and he had to sleep sitting up.

So many people has grabbed Lincoln's nose that the bronze has now been rubbed gold.

The Lincoln Tomb is gigantic - 117 feet tall.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Corey.  The picture was not staged and it reminds me of a little boy intrigues by something unusual.

This is where Lincoln is buried.

We looked and finally found the famous "Route 66".  Corey tried to talk me into letting him take the sign home as a "souvenir".  He said, "They've probably got people who replace these signs all the time."  He didn't bring one home  only a picture to prove he was there.

Our tickets to tour all the Abraham Lincoln exhibits.

This is one of the city parks in Springfield where we had a picnic lunch.

We spread out a blanket, made sandwiches and Corey fed the squirrels...

...and ducks.
