May 22, 1961 - Sure is warm on Wake Island. I wouldn't want to live here. But the water is pretty.

Note: After leaving Hawaii, our plane had to land on Wake Island to refuel. All passengers were loaded onto a bus and taken to the base cafeteria for some lunch. I, too, remember it being very hot.
Wake is located to the west of the International Date Line and sits in the Wake Island Time Zone, one day ahead of the 50 U.S. states.
Although Wake is officially called an island in the singular form, it is actually an atoll comprising three islands surrounding a central lagoon having a coastline of 12 miles (19 km) in the North Pacific Ocean.
