On This Day in History...

...June 10, 1776…The Continental Congress appointed a committee to write a Declaration of Independence.

I feel very fortunate that I've had the opportunity to see a copy of the original Declaration of Independence.  The first time I saw it was when Nancy, Mom, Aunt Rachel and I went to the National Archives Building located on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C.   It holds the original copies of the three main formative documents of the United States and its government: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.  There was no line and you could wander around in the rotunda where these documents are kept.
