Prayers and Priesthood

Priesthood: The power and authority of God given to man to act on His behalf.
Blessing: A declaration of divine favor or an invocation imploring divine favor on some or something.
Prayer: an address (as a petition) to God; an earnest request or wish

This is one of those blogs being written primarily for my son, my grandchildren, my family members and those friends who are willing to accept my beliefs...

A couple of weeks ago, Joe mentioned that he was having problems seeing out of his right eye. He said he had a very large dark floater which was making it difficult for him to see. He said he'd been experiencing similar problems for a few days, but hadn't told me. While getting ready for church the next day, his vision had almost disappeared. We went on to church and it was while walking up to the chapel that I noticed reddish/pink spots in both of his eyes.

I went immediately to speak with the Bishop telling him about what was happening and that we needed help. We needed help in locating a doctor. Within an hour, an appointment had been set up for Joe to see a doctor the next morning and transportation had been arranged so that I wouldn't have to take off work.

He came home the next day with fully dilated eyes and news that there was indeed fluid build up behind his eyes. His condition was enough of a concern that he was being returned to a retinal specialist with an appointment set for the following Monday.

We received many phone calls and well wishes and promised prayers on Joe's behalf in the next week. I cried on several occasions because of the possibility that Joe might be losing his eyesight, but knew that we would do whatever we needed to do on a daily basis.

On Monday afternoon, I took Joe for his appointment. His eyes were dilated once again and several tests performed again. Then it came time for the doctor to deliver his findings. He came into the office and stated that he'd looked at the notes and tests from the other doctor. He'd looked at his tests also and said he didn't know what to say. (That's when my heart started sinking). The doctor continued and said that there was no longer any fluid of any type behind Joe's eyes. He didn't know how to explain it and that there was nothing he could do for Joe. No need to do anything for Joe other than have him come back in three months for the same identical tests and see if there was any change.

The doctor may not know what happened to the fluid behind Joe's eyes, but I do. I know it was all those prayers by all those friends and family. It was the priesthood blessing that was given to Joe on Sunday afternoon. And that was a special and unusual blessing as Joe was promised that his sight would be restored once again. The blessing didn't say perfect sight, but his former sight. I believe in priesthood blessings; I always have especially since my dad was the perfect example of a righteous priesthood holder. I've been the recipient of priesthood blessings basically all my life and I've seen priesthood blessings heal several people many times, including myself and my son and my husband.

So, in my heart and in my mind, I know why Joe can see today. He may still be legally blind, but he can see.
