Joe and His Doughnuts

I've recently discovered something that will definitely make Joe leave the house, walk up the hill from our house and cross a busy street and go into a grocery store...Bavarian cream doughnuts. He loves them and he found out that he can get them by taking a few steps, well maybe more than a few, and he can have as many as he wants.

He's gotten wise about his doughnut shopping too. When he first when to the store checking on doughnuts it was around 9:00 p.m. and found out that they were all gone. All there was was an empty tray. He went a little earlier the next trip, but was still too late to purchase his favorites. He settled for just a doughnut - nothing special other than raised dough with some kind of sweetner on top. Next trip, he went even earlier - shortly after 6:00 a.m. and BINGO!!! he scored his Bavarian creams - two of them. Yes, he is diabetic, but I look at it this way - he works off enough calories and lowers his blood sugar just by the way and so it all evens out.

He tops off his doughnuts with a tall glass of chocolate milk. Joe hates milk - won't drink it. He'll use it in his breakfast cereal, but only to have his cereal be wet. He hates soggy cereal because of the milk, but he LOVES chocolate milk and he has to drink that when eating a doughnut.

Today he made his pilgrimage to Albertson's for his doughnuts. He arrived at 6:10 a.m. and the day was ruined instantly. There he was face-to-face with an empty doughnut tray. There were no Bavarian creams, no chocolate glazed, no maple-flavored, no powder - NONE. He couldn't believe what his newly fixed eyeballs weren't seeing!!! As he stood there in disbelief he finally willed his feet to move over to the bakery counter and confirm his worse fear - NO DOUGHNUTS and he had arrived in plenty of time! He was told that someone had come in just before him and bought every doughnut in the case.

Sometimes it just doesn't pay to get out of bed early - even for doughnuts.

  1. I feel his pain. Family legends include the time I made Donald go all the way back to Albertson's to have them restuff my eclair because it wasn't full enough. Granted, I was pregnant which explains it all.
